Dick’s real estate practice includes the acquisition, disposition, leasing, financing, construction, and management of commercial, retail, residential, industrial, and hotel developments, as well as the organization of the ownership entities for such developments, land use law, public subsidies, public/private partnerships (P3's), and other real estate development and financing matters.

  • Dick has extensive experience in connection with shopping centers and urban hotel developments.
  • His national practice includes real estate projects in 20 states ranging from California to Rhode Island and the sale and/or acquisition of multi-state real estate assets.
  • He has years of experience in dealing with national owners and tenants of retail and commercial space, including REITS, national and regional grocery store owners and tenants.
  • Dick regularly counsels clients with regard to the financing of large commercial real estate projects and has experience with national financing sources, including conventional, conduit and bond (tax-exempt and taxable) financing structures, as well as public subsidies and P3's such as Transportation Development Districts, community Improvement Districts, Special Business Districts, and Tax Increment Financing.

Representative Transactions

  • Disposition of 36 operating grocery anchored shopping centers in nine states in a single transaction by 36 separate but related owners to an UPreit.
  • Formation, administration, and tax-exempt bond financings for Transportation Development Districts, Community Improvement Districts, and Tax Increment Financings.
  • Structuring and implementation of joint ventures between an affiliate of a national supermarket chain and a regional developer for the construction of grocery anchored shopping centers. Assistance included joint venture documentation, acquisition, financing, leasing, and construction documentation.
  • Assemblage of a 2.5 city square block area for 1,000 room convention headquarters hotel, including $98 million empowerment zone bond financing, to date the largest offering in the country.
