The State of Iowa Board of Regents announced yesterday that it has hired The Stolar Partnership LLP to investigate the University's handling of recent sexual assault allegations involving student athletes. The selection of an out-of-state firm, to assure an independent review, demonstrates the Board's goal of objectivity in this sensitive matter.

Leading the legal team for The Stolar Partnership is James Sears Bryant, Chairman of the Firm's Higher Education Practice. In addition to his law degree, Bryant holds a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied under Spellings Commission member Dr. Robert Zemsky. C. Peter Goplerud III, of counsel to the Firm and current Dean of Florida Coastal School of Law, Doreen D. Dodson, former President of the Missouri Bar and partner with significant experience in employment law and matters involving accusations of sexual harassment, and Charla M. Scott will also assist with the investigation.

In providing legal services to the higher education community, The Stolar Partnership concentrates its efforts in several critical areas of representation including governance, development, finance, intellectual property, the administration of charitable funds, and financial restructuring. The Firm also works closely with all types of institutions to prevent and defend claims arising out of institutional misrepresentations and other complex allegations. Additionally, the Firm has special expertise in intercollegiate athletics, including NCAA matters,coaches' contracts, intellectual property as well as the overall strategic management of institutional sports marketing. The Firm recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of Houston Baptist University in a matter concerning the period of time institutions returning to the NCAA must wait before the school is allowed to participate in post-season competition.
