Just a reminder that many small tax-exempt organizations that previously were exempt from the Form 990 filing requirement because their gross receipts were less than $25,000 now are required to file the new annual Form 990-N. If your organization is a calendar year taxpayer, normally has less than $25,000 in gross receipts, and is not otherwise subject to or exempt from the requirement to file a Form 990, Form 990-EZ, or Form 990-PF, then the first Form 990-N will be due on or before May 15, 2008. An IRS publication highlights the importance of complying with this filing requirement: “The new e-Postcard reporting requirement is simple and straightforward, but organizations shouldn’t ignore it, or they risk losing their tax-exempt status.” See the IRS website for further information.
